If you have read our blog post on Ouija boards or completed our course you will, by now, know that the team here have different opinions on the use of Ouija boards during paranormal investigations. We do however all have the same belief that we should use them with respect and use them safely.
There are some rules and information we like to follow and hope they will be helpful to you too.
1. Respect the board - look after it, keep it in a dark bag and don't keep it at home. We don't all have the concern about it being at home but it is common practice generally to keep it elsewhere.
2. Always use a protection prayer/blessing/spell to open and close the board to add some protection for both yourself and others involved on the planchette.
3. It is recommended that you only move the planchette clockwise round the board when in use or building energy. If the planchette begins to make the shape of a figure of eight whilst in use it would be sensible to close it down as it is believed to be a non-human entity.
4. Always close the board by taking the planchette to 'Goodbye'. This is said to ensure the spirits can not then leave the board or attach to anyone.
5. Be mindful of your language. Do not anger a spirit or disrespect them. You will only get back what you give. if you give of negative energy it is what you are likely to attract to the board. No one wants that!
6. Be aware of who you are potentially talking to. If you are talking to so not to scare them off. If the person is unlikely to have been someone spell, change your tactics. Use numbers, yes/no and make use of the pictures on the board and assign them a meaning.
7. It is advised that you never ask a Ouija board when you are going to die. Any questions answer should be taken with a pinch of salt as spirits can be as playful and jovial as they were in life. Not every answer will be a truth. They are also not psychic.
8. Remove the planchette from a board that is not in use.
9. Once you are attached to the board through the planchette do not remove your finger until you have said goodbye as this is meant to leave you open to attachment.
10. Finally, if you feel the need to destroy a board, do not burn it. It is believed that spirits can be trapped within them and burning one sets them all free. A haunted board should be buried separately from its planchette. cover the spots with either holy water or salt depending on your beliefs.
